No matter how long you’ve been a writer, no matter that you’ve had a book published, there’s always something more to learn. Many changes happen in the Christian publishing industry each year, and a writers’ conference is one of the best places I know to learn about market demands and to improve your writing.
Last week I attended the Montrose Christian Writers Conference, held on the grounds of the Montrose Bible Conference in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania. I have attended this conference for more than 20 years, and every year I look forward to returning to be with old friends, new writers, and industry professionals, who share their expertise and give encouragement. Each year I come away deeply humbled by the people I meet, fellow authors and writers and faculty members who are writers, publishers, agents, or otherwise involved in the publishing industry. Not only am I left in awe of the talent of these people, but I am humbled by their desire to serve and honor God most of all.
MCWC is a small conference, usually less than 100, which allows for personal interaction among the conference attenders and closer contact with the faculty. The MBC staff is welcoming and helpful. I feel blessed when I’m able to attend and a little homesick when I have to leave. It’s a family reunion.
If you have never attended a writers’ conference, I assure you it will be life-changing when you do.
Later this week my husband and I plan to fly to Texas to visit our daughter and her family. I’m looking forward to being with them and to gain new information and inspiration for my writing.
The summer is racing by too fast, and I can hardly believe it’s half over (in New York the summer begins in late June and ends in early September with the ending and the beginning of the school year).

Beth, nice job on this blog. And you covered our wonderful conference well. And, yes, I’ve heard from more than one person that they feel “homesick” when leaving such a serene place and some life-long friends, whom they might not see for another year or so.
