If you’re like me, you sometimes wonder if what you do, or what you say, or what you write make a difference. A simple “well-done” or “thank you” help us know that what we do, say, or write have value. As authors, we are encouraged when we know people are reading our books and express that they benefit from what we have written.
I’d like to share with you something that happened to my husband. When we were first married, nearly forty-eight years ago, he worked at a residential home for children with emotional problems because of a difficult home life. He was a counselor for boys 8 years to 12 years old. At times the work was difficult and discouraging, but there were some good times as well. He hasn’t had contact with anyone from the home for many years.
Recently he received a call from a man who identified himself as one of the boys he worked with back then. The man remembered my husband and had been trying to find him to thank him for his help, which changed his life, so long ago. My husband remembered the boy. He had led him to the Lord.
I know my husband was touched deeply, and so was I.
We never know how we impact the lives of the people around us. God has given each of us the gift of using words to forward His kingdom and to change the lives of others. I hope that what I have shared here will encourage you to keep writing. Your words have value. You have value.
