Mac and Sam. Jake’s the man. A plot to span.
This is the first novel from Ms Sprinkle I’ve read. There was plenty of action and suspense as new private investigators Mackenzie Love and Samantha Majors tackle a series of murders that may or mar not be connected. One thing is certain, evidence they provided at the trial of the husband of one of the victims has soured many of the residents of their small town on them. In an attempt to show the acquitting evidence was valid, Mac and Sam try to find the real murderer. The acquitted husband wants them to leave it alone. Death threats from an unknown source also want them to stop their investigation. Even the local police want them to stop. As you might expect, this does not deter them. And Sam’s police detective brother, Jake, begins to believe they are on to something. It doesn’t hurt that he’s also sweet on Mac.
I loved Ms Sprinkle’s writing style, and steady pace to the novel. As the protagonists soon discover, this case becomes a mess of clues which don’t seem to fit. One of the delightful characters is their former high school teacher, Miss P. She is definitely a character, yet provides a lot of help to run down the clues. I am looking forward to the next book in the Mac and Sam series. ~Timothy A. Johnson
