Nice Companion to The Gathering Dark

Thanks to Scrivenings Press, I was able to read this novella set in Brett Armstrong’s “Quest of Fire” series! I can’t go into too much detail for the content without spoiling his novel, “The Gathering Dark.” This novella is a prequel of sorts, several short tidbits of history in the style of the Silmarillion. I loved getting that glimpse into a character’s past, and filling in some more details about the Knights of Light themselves.

The writing is lovely as usual, high prose suited to the story and setting. However, it fell a bit short of the excitement of “The Gathering Dark” for me. It is an excellent companion to the novel, and anyone who is looking for more Christian-themed fantasy should definitely check this author out. The books could be read in either order, though I recommend reading them the way I did, with the novel first!
