Succession is the second book in Brett Armstrong’s Quest for Fire series. This book is a quick read, and with the wild schedule I’ve been keeping lately, I’m genuinely pleased I could sit down and enjoy it to the fullest.
We follow a young Meredoch in this story. For those who have read The Gathering Dark (Book One), we remember this character introducing himself. But I’m not going to say how or when. You’ll have to read The Gathering Dark for yourself. This book shows us his life prior to those events.
I loved the interaction between Meredoch and his father, Sir Augustine. And with his best friend, Duncoin. And we see all of Meredoch’s hardships, and heartbreaks, as his life progresses. Each event molds him into Cinaed of Bracken.
Mr. Armstrong’s writing is so fluid. And the combined topic of Christian themes brings out the best in his work. I highly recommend the Quest for Fire series to readers who’ve read the Books of the Infinite series by R. J. Larson. And I cannot wait to see where this series goes next.
