What a wonderful story Ms. Lounsbury weaves, set in the middle of the depression. Dr. Pete is a very human lead character, with flaws and self-doubt, and carrying a load of guilt and fear. However, his faith, his innate kindness, and belief in the goodness of people, keep him going.
The historical information about the 1930s United States of America only adds to the flavor of the story. The struggles and triumphs of the supporting characters in this book really draw us into this difficult time period, and yet celebrates the strength and spirit of the human race.
I very much enjoyed this book. I couldn’t help but keep turning the pages, reading about Pete’s next adventure, rooting for his success, and smiling at his budding romance with Kathleen Creeks pretty little school teacher. I will definitely be reading more by this author!
