I love this series. It reminds me of The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I did find it much easier to read than The Lord of the Rings. Readers will also catch glimpses of Bible stories in similar plot lines.
Brett Armstrong uses a dual timeline to tell the story. I appreciated the chapter titles which help readers determine right away which timeline the chapter is focused on.
I have previously read Succession and The Gathering Dark, the other books in the Quest of Fire series. I think the titles should be read in order because there is a lot going on in the plot. I was wishing as I started reading Shadows at Nightfall that there was a synopsis of the previous titles as it had been a while since I read them. It would have been helpful to help me remember as I was a bit lost at first. I later found the synopses at the end of the eBook copy I was reading.
Brett Armstrong left readers with a couple of cliff hangers so I hope there is another volume coming in this fantastic fantasy series.
I think fantasy lovers in middle school and up will enjoy this title.
