Scarred Vessels is a dramatic and compelling story set in a little known corner of the nation’s history–slaves, slave owners, Hessians, Swamp Yankees, and part of the Revolutionary War fought in Northeastern States. It includes the mysterious, the romantic (actually, more than one love story), war casualties, and an escape.
The troops were subjected to terrible smallpox inoculations. The author, a nurse, tells more of that fascinating history in a note at the end. I enjoyed the baby’s name: Araminta Joy. My great grandmother’s name was Laura Arminta.
