“I’m bigger now.” My three-year-old son stands on his dining chair, having refused his booster seat. “But I’m still little, too.”
I know exactly how he feels.
I have two books published. That’s something I wasn’t sure would ever happen, though it was always a dream. Some days, it still doesn’t feel real. But it is.
And I have another coming out next fall. Forward momentum. It’s not as fast as I would always like, but it’s not slowing down yet, either. This is good.
After that, though? I’m not sure. I have several manuscripts that need edits and then I can send them out into the great unknown, to an editor, an agent, a publishing house, or simply to the printer if I decide to go indie. I am warring within myself over various possibilities.
Even though I’m a multi-published author, I’m still learning, still growing, still getting my feet under me and figuring out where to go from here. I’ve learned a lot over the last five years. I’ve learned much of the process of publishing. I’ve learned more about developing backstory and giving characters depth. I’ve learned that one of the best ways to have readers find you is to have more books out there to find (Ruth Logan Hearne) and I’ve learned that the other best way to be found it by word of mouth.
Am I where I thought I’d be at this point in my life/career? Probably not.
But on the other hand, I’m farther, too.
Life is funny that way.
But it’s the end of the year, and as I reflect back on everything, I think I’m in a fairly good place right now. Thanks for all your support and encouragement as I continue to spread my wings.
