GIVING HOPE THROUGH OUR WORDS
When my husband and I taught Good News Clubs years ago, we told a Christmas story entitled “If I Had Not Come.” A boy dreamed what the world would be like if Jesus had not come. I made it into play script for the church young people to perform at Christmas.
If Jesus Christ had not been born, the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ would not have occurred. Without the Resurrection, our faith would be based on nothing, it would be empty (1 Corinthians 15:13,14). Our world would be a very different place. Because of Jesus Christ, many institutions of learning, health, and compassion would not have been conceived, because they were created by people who followed Christ and were the outcome of the fruit of the Spirit in their lives. This is to God’s glory, not ours.
As authors, we know that the printed word makes a difference. Many authors receive messages from their readers revealing how their book, story, article, or poem has helped, and it encourages them to keep on writing. As Christians, whether we write for the Christian or secular market, we want our writing to honor God as we encourage someone in some way with truth.
In today’s world, more than ever, we need the hope the Resurrection gives us: the hope of God’s love and eternal life that is promised to those who recognize their own sinfulness and inability to help themselves, who acknowledge that Jesus Christ willingly sacrificed His body and blood to pay for our sins, and who receive Him as Lord and Savior. And we have the honor and calling to share that hope with our readers.
Without Christmas there would be no Resurrection Day, or Easter as we often call it. Without the Resurrection, there would be no hope, Even though we write fiction, we are called to share truth as we view the world through God’s Word and eyes.
The angel at the tomb after Jesus’ resurrection said to the women, “And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead…” (Matthew 28:7). Jesus told His disciples, “…and you shall be witnesses to me…” (Acts 1:8). In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told His followers, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
As a Christian author, may my words be a light to the world and bring glory to God.
(The Scripture used is from the New King James Version of the Bible.)
