As with us all, I’m sure many of your plans for 2020 have changed over the last few months.
When the year began, I set a slightly crazy goal for myself. I wanted to write two new books, publish one (in the works for this October!), get a contract on at least one more, and edit at least one or two others. Maybe insane, considering I’m also a stay-at-home mom of two preschoolers and a preschool teacher during the school year, too. But I’m determined to keep up my momentum in this publishing business and maybe even pick up more.
Well, let me tell you. My plans were changed. Don’t get me wrong. I haven’t necessarily taken anything off my list yet. But, I haven’t written either story I meant to, either.
You see, last year during our writing retreat, we started brainstorming a rather crazy idea during one of our sessions. Three romance writers and a speculative writer were all at the same table, having to come up with one story outline together. From that, we started tossing around other possibilities. What if we wrote a series that was all connected by one thing, like the chapel there at the state park?
It was half-hearted, mostly for fun. But the more we thought about it, the more it grew on us. Three of us kept talking about it more later, and this year decided to make it happen. We planned out a trilogy, with one historical romance, one contemporary, and one dystopian futuristic romance. Sounds a bit out-of-the-box, doesn’t it?
The contemporary story was given to me. I had no idea where to go with this. After all, the only part I knew to start with was the chapel. But I mulled it over and found some characters: Lennox, a girl who doesn’t believe in love due to her past, and Ty, a man who believes in love over all. Now, to get them together. If you want to know more about my story, check out my pinterest board here.
Needless to say, the story I meant to write this spring was set aside, and this one took over. But you know what? That’s okay. Because I can write the other one later this year. And this trilogy story turned out even better than I had hoped.
What has changed for you during this crazy year? Have you accomplished any goals you set out to work on? You’ve still got time! Go write!
Amy R Anguish, author of An Unexpected Legacy and Faith & Hope, grew up a preacher’s kid, and in spite of having lived in seven different states that are all south of the Mason Dixon line, she is not a football fan. Currently, she resides in Tennessee with her husband, daughter, and son, and usually a bossy cat or two. Amy has an English degree from Freed-Hardeman University that she intends to use to glorify God, and she wants her stories to show that while Christians face real struggles, it can still work out for good.
