In our youth, we loved. In our youth, we lost. In our youth, we sinned, forgave, then lived to love again. And I, to tell our story. ~ Emma-Grace
One decision. One stop on the way home. One chance discovery.
In 1973, high school senior Emma-Grace Saddleford’s life takes a radical shift. While returning from Savannah to her home in Bynum after seeing American Graffiti with her best friend, Carrie, Emma-Grace stops at a roadside phone booth to call home. There in the light of a neon sign, she finds a wallet, one she later learns belongs to a young man bound for Lackland AFB. But when that discovery leads to correspondence and the correspondence leads to deep friendship, Emma-Grace is torn between honoring her parents and the desires of her heart. Added to her confusion is the normal angst of being a high school senior, the tragic loss of a friend, the unexpected life changes of others, and the toil of deceptions. For a young woman trying to “get it right,” Emma-Grace is getting it all wrong.
Now, as an adult, Emma-Grace wonders how life might have turned out differently. Not necessarily better. Just not the same.
Set in the throes of the Jesus Revolution and filled with songs, TV shows, and movies from that era, The Girl From Apple Tree Lane raises and answers one vital question: can one innocent decision change the trajectory of a life?
